Kisses4Kids – May Fun Day

4 May

Residents to East Hertfordshire were treated to a Fun Day Monday this bank holiday in aid of Kisses4Kids. Fundraiser Stacey Johnson and her family of helpers were at hand to hold down the canopies as the wind blew through the event. And the rain came, but it didn’t dampen our spirits as visitors weathered the heavier storm of being caricatured by me.

Happy 'Stacy's Angels' receive their Cartoons by Landers

The event was covered by the local press and Anglia TV came too.

Little Olivia gives Landers some expert advice on 'what's funny'.

Stacey was diagnosed with a brain tumour and has been undergoing treatment for it over the past 3 years. I am pleased to support Stacey’s cause which funds treats for Kids and teenagers who are undergoing hospital treatment. Last summer she funded a Log Cabin (teenage hideaway and games room) within the Dolphin ward of the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex. I was pleased to paint a Dolphin and Fish cartoon mural on the outside and be part of the celebration when it was officially opened by 80s Pop Singer and Gardener Kim Wilde.

Cartoonist Landers paints for the public

Cartoonist Landers enjoys a coffee break in Shrewsbury's town square

Plenty of visitors came along to partake, as well as our own Patrons for the Professional Cartoonists Organisation – non other than Radio 4  Presenter and journalist, Libby Purvis and Radio 2 presenter and cartoon lover Alex Lester and his good lady. If you came along to say hello at the ‘Corn Exchange’ square where myself and colleagues were happily painting 8′ by 6′ cartoon gags for the masses, a large thanks. ….And, here’s to next year.
